Here are a few things you might be wondering before we get started.

Questions? You’re in the right place.

Getting Started
What can I expect from my first counselling session?

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other and starting to understand what brought you to counselling and what you'd like to get out of it. I'll probably ask some questions about what's going on in your life, relevant history, supports, and what has or hasn't been helpful before. We can take our time and focus on what's most important to you.

What if I don't know what I want to work on yet?

That's okay. Sometimes people arrive with a very clear idea of what they want from counselling, and sometimes figuring that out is part of the work. We can start with what's happening in your life now and see where the conversation takes us.

What kinds of things can I bring to counselling?

People come to counselling for all kinds of reasons. My work includes trauma, relationships, anxiety, depression, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), addiction and recovery, domestic violence and abuse (including non-physical forms of abuse), emotional regulation, major life changes, identity, boundaries, grief and loss, and times when life simply feels complicated or difficult to navigate.

You don't need a diagnosis or a neatly defined problem to come to counselling.

Who do you work with?

I primarily provide individual counselling to adults aged 19 and older. I also offer couples counselling in some circumstances. Both partners must be receiving individual counselling, either with their own counsellors or with me. We'll begin with a consultation together to discuss whether I'm an appropriate fit and how privacy and confidentiality will work.

Individual counselling is available online throughout British Columbia and in person in Squamish.

What therapeutic approaches do you use?

My work is trauma-informed, relational, collaborative, and strongly influenced by Narrative Therapy. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), attachment theory, and nervous-system-informed approaches.

What we actually use in the room will depend on you, what we're working on, and what you find helpful.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free 30-minute consultation so we can meet, talk a little about what you're looking for, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.

Booking, Fees + Sessions
How long are counselling sessions and how much do they cost?

Individual counselling sessions are 50 minutes and cost $140. Couples counselling sessions are 50 minutes and cost $155.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes. I offer online counselling to adults throughout British Columbia. Virtual sessions are available throughout the week, including on Fridays when I'm also seeing clients in person in Squamish.

Where are your in-person counselling sessions held?

I offer in-person counselling at Inner Sphere Wellness, located at 201-37979 Cleveland Avenue in downtown Squamish.

Yes, that means you can find your Bright Space within your Inner Sphere. I couldn't have planned it better.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly with me without a referral from a doctor or other healthcare provider.

Will my insurance cover counselling with you?

It depends on your individual benefits plan. Some extended health plans cover counselling with a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC), while others only cover specific professional designations. If you plan to use benefits, I recommend checking your plan or contacting your insurer to confirm that CCC services are covered.

I provide receipts showing my Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation that you can submit to your extended health benefits provider.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, and American Express are accepted through Colib, the secure platform I use for online booking, forms, payments, and receipts. I also accept e-transfer.

What are your usual office hours and availability?

I generally offer appointments between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. Online counselling is available throughout the week, and I currently offer in-person sessions in Squamish on Fridays.

If you're looking for regular in-person counselling and Fridays don't work for you, please reach out. My in-person availability is growing, and I may be able to accommodate another day.

How far in advance do I need to book?

Appointments can generally be booked online up to 16 hours before the session. I intentionally keep the booking window fairly short so that counselling can sometimes be available when something comes up and you'd like support sooner rather than later.

Availability isn't guaranteed, and Bright Space Therapy isn't an on-call or emergency service.

What is your cancellation policy?

Life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give me at least 24 hours' notice whenever possible. There is no charge for cancellations made more than 24 hours before your appointment.

Late cancellations may be subject to a fee, although I understand that illness and unexpected circumstances happen and will use reasonable discretion. Appointments missed without notice are charged at 50% of the session fee.

Privacy + Support
Is counselling confidential?

Yes. What you share in counselling is confidential, with some legal and ethical exceptions. I'll explain those limits as part of informed consent before we begin working together, and you're always welcome to ask questions about your privacy or how your information is handled.

I take privacy and informed consent very seriously.

What if I need immediate or crisis support?

Bright Space Therapy is not an emergency or crisis service, and I can't guarantee immediate availability.

If you are experiencing a mental health crisis in British Columbia, call 310-6789 (no area code required) for 24/7 crisis support.

If you are thinking about suicide or are worried about someone who may be, call or text 9-8-8 for Canada's 24/7 Suicide Crisis Helpline.

If your immediate safety is at risk, call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest emergency department.
